TRAINEE PREREQUISITES
COURSE DESCRIPTION - This course covers the uses of aircraft and the safe and proper conduct around aircraft while performing tactical and logistical uses for wildland fire suppression. Other topics covered are management policy, regulations and procedures governing aircraft operations, tactical and logistical uses of aircraft and specifications for helicopter landing areas.
COURSE OBJECTIVES - Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Define and discuss the tactical and logistical uses of aircraft in wildland fire suppression.
- Identify and discuss safety procedures to be followed while in or working around aircraft.
- Describe the types of aircraft used on wildland fire incidents, their identifying characteristics and the uses of each.
- Describe aviation regulations that agencies implement which are more restrictive than the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
- Identify specification and safety requirements for helicopter landing area used by agencies in fire suppression.
- Describe the criteria for determining the effectiveness of a suppressant/retardant drop and safety procedures to observe during a drop.
