TARGET GROUP - individuals working towards the Ignition Specialist, Type 2 (RXI2) and/or the Firing Boss (FIRB) positions and resource personnel involved in fire use.

TRAINEE PREREQUISITES

• Required - S290 Intermediate Wildland Fire Behavior
• Strongly Recommended - none

COURSE DESCRIPTION - This is an entry-level course providing training in the functional roles and responsibilities connected with firing operations. The course covers planning, ignition procedures and techniques, and equipment applicable to wildland and prescribed fire. This course also addresses the role of the ignition specialist or firing boss as the organization manages escalation from a non-complex to a complex fire situation.

COURSE OBJECTIVES - Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

• Describe the role and responsibility of the Ignition Specialist (RXI2) or Firing Boss (FIRB) for planning, execution, safety, training and coordination of an on-incident burn operation.
• Analyze an ignition/firing plan and describe its validity.
• Write an ignition firing plan to include: ignition method, firing tactics, resource needs and safety.
