Mission Statement

The Klamath Falls Interagency Fire Center has two major components to its mission. It is established to provide a safe, effective and efficient environment at the Klamath Fall Air Tanker Base for the support of aerial firefighting resources. The Klamath Falls Interagency Fire Dispatch Center is established to provide initial attack dispatching and logistical support for all hazard emergency management on federal and state protected lands in the Klamath Basin, and mobilizing resources for incidents. The Fire Center provides services for incidents throughout South Central Oregon, the Pacific Northwest, and the Nation.

PUBLIC USE RESTRICTIONS GO INTO EFFECT FOR SOUTH CENTRAL OREGON

Lakeview, Oregon - Due to the high fire danger in south central Oregon, Public Use Restrictions (PUR) will be in effect beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday, July 27. These restrictions apply to lands managed by the Fremont-Winema National Forests and the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Lakeview District. The only Lakeview District BLM-managed lands not included in this order are those within the Klamath Falls Resource Area that are west of the Langell Valley. This area is under the protection of the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF). Controlled Burns to Start in Klamath and Lake Counties

Klamath and Lake Counties - The arrival of Spring means it's time once again for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the United States Forest Service to initiate controlled burning.

>Burning is scheduled to occur on approximately 950 acres of BLM managed lands in Klamath County this includes pile burning south of Bonanza, and under-story and pile burning in the Klamath River Canyon. Another 2,800 acres of pile burning in Lake County is planned near Snyder Creek, Twelve Mile and Fifteen Mile Creek. "Controlled burning is a tool used by the BLM to acheve multiple benefits," said Carol Benkosky, BLM Lakeview District Manager. "The reduction of overgrown vegetation helps maintain and restore fire-dependent ecosystems, reduces the risk of wildfire, and promotes the safety of firefighters and the general public." Smoke may be visible from the surrounding communties, but is expected to disperse from the fires fairly quickly. The Forest Service also has 13,000 acres planned near Bly, Bonanza, Chemult, Chiloquin, Lakeview and Silver Lake, Oregon. " Fire is important to the health and balance of our Forest," said John Giller, Interagency Fire Management Officer for the Fremont-Winema National Forests and Lakeview District BLM. "We need to allow fire to play a role in nature in order to protect and preserve National Forest lands for future generations." Potential burn locations include the following: Bly Ranger District plans on burning 6,600 acres near Goodlow Mtn area and the Bly Wildland Urban Interface. Chemult Ranger District plans on burning 940 acres on the eastern boundary of Crater Lake National Park. Chiloquin Ranger District plans to burn 300 acres in the Silver Dollar flat area 10 miles east of Yamsi Ranch. Lakeview Ranger District plans to burn 3,000 acres near Upper Thomas Creek. Silver Lake Ranger District plans to burn 1,200 acres in the Brattain Ridge area, north of Sycan Marsh. Burns will only occur on days when the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) Smoke Management Office indicates suitable weather conditions for smoke dispersal. * Please do not call 911 about burning in the areas referred to above.
